Mike Solana and his rotating cast of characters provide high quality content with an an entertaining mix of original journalism and commentary nearly every week. If you like All In you’ll love Pirate Wires.

Maybe move federal government agencies away from Washington DC and to the states. Require in office to retain your job. The reality is that government agencies could have a 50% head count reduction and it would continue to not be functional, but could actually benefit. I would like to see an across the board reduction of 50%. From there I would like all similar functions to be merged together, but under different management. Third streamline the merged functions and eliminate all duplicate roles. Forth officially define the goal and establish a recurring review if the goal was achieved with actual third party metrics and third party analysis. If the goals are achieved then phase out the program, determine if it’s still necessary, etc. The key is that there are no sacred cows. Every agency should be on the table. Each function of each agency should be reviewed and evaluated if the function should be performed by the federal agency or returned to the states. The reality is that the vast majority of these functions should be performed at the state level.

I tend to stay in the center (sanity), and my views move the spectrum on different issues that make sense, common sense. You all however are very disingenuous. Just as bad as some of the other lunatic right/left wing crazies. You have an opportunity to really hammer home sanity and you chose far right trash. Smh.

I’m not in tech but I love the commentary of this show! I make sure to listen every week for the insights, advice and laughs!

This podcast is at its best when it unites the PW staff in skewering absurdity in tech and politics from each of their unique perspectives or in the (rare) occasion that one of the crew bravely pushes back on Solana and produces some listenable sparring in the process. The show is at its worst when it enforces ideological rigidity and you can hear the team choosing their next cautious words like hostages. The guy named Brandon doesn’t even seem to be paying attention most of the time and just stammers out some stilted agreement with his boss when called on. The vibe is either a comedic roast or the classroom of an over-caffeinated English teacher whose students are waiting for the bell to ring.

And this covers that nicely along with media kerfuffles, smart and even handed commentary, tech whatever, etc.

PW has become one of my go-to listens alongside the All In pod. Highly recommend! 🔥

Rational and intelligent dialogue. Extremely happy I finally found a podcast that breaks down the news and other happenings in a logical, pragmatic, and enjoyable way. That guy Mike is easy on the eyes too if you look at the video version.

Great show. Picked it up over the summer and have been listening regularly. Interesting topics and points of view. On another note, gotta get Augustus Doricko as a semi regular or regular on the panel. Dude is thoroughly entertaining, had never heard of him before.

For as much as this guy insists he is a “reasonable centrist” or whatever, he sure platforms and/or propagates a bunch of pretty far-right views, including but not limited to “the ADL has gone too far because they crossed papa Elon” and “LGBT people need to be reined in, Chris Rufo is right.” Even his nominally left/center views include insane takes like “J6 participants should all be executed.” He seems to take a certain joy/delight in the prospect of violence and humiliation befalling his “enemies,” which are as far as I can tell accounts on Twitter which Post things he doesn’t like. Look, dude, you work for/venerate a guy who said he does not “believe freedom and democracy are compatible.” You are a far right ideologue. And your “start up news company” — or whatever you want to call it — is a platform for far right politics. Infowars for d00dz who code.

I appreciate River’s commentary and humor and each of these three stars is for him. Unfortunately the structure of the pod itself just feels like him waiting for Mike to finish his “old man yells at cloud” rants on activism, leftism, wokeism, etc. so he can interject some actual original insight and entertainment. Everyone who has ever smiled and nodded as their blowhard boss yammered on can palpably feel the dynamic.

Funny, insightful, provocative and fast-paced.
